Community 101: Co-Working and Event Space

As a vital component of the progress of downtown Wellington, Kansas, Community 101 has the power to improve community livability in multiple ways, from supporting new economic and population growth to fostering remote work by an increasingly diverse group of talented professionals. With anticipated completion in the Spring of 2023, Community 101 will function as:

  • a co-working venue;
  • an event space;
  • a location in which rotating local art is displayed for retail sale;
  • as a host building for demonstration of emerging energy efficient and renewable energy technologies;
  • a contributor to local resilience;
  • and more.

Co-Working And Co-Existing

The pandemic has increased the appeal of co-working arrangements as individuals find that working from home continuously can seem isolating and limit creativity. Co-working in general provides selective engagement and personal connectivity that working from home does not. Co-working spaces enable hybrid models, enhance satisfaction and encourage networking. Co-working with high speed internet from a rural downtown environment provides a quality of life and sense of connection that just isn’t available in suburbs or cities. We expect that our partnership with Sumner County Economic Development Commission (SCEDC) will help link enhance overall community impact and public benefit.

How can Community 101 help you contribute to the community?

Community 101 will serve as a focal point for showing constructive energy in enhancing downtown Wellington and beyond.  What unique skill or capability do you have which can help reinvent rural downtown life?

There is a lot of work to get done to bring the long underutilized “Woolworth Building” back to being a community contributor.  With public support for the project, it is all the more important that we leverage the best value in local trades to achieve our goals.  The “RFPs” section of this site shows open solicitations, and requirements.
